Refilling meds early

You are getting ready to go on vacation and it is too soon to refill your meds, but you will need more than what you have on hand.

Call your insurance and ask for a vacation override.  Tell them the situation and they should be able to allow you to fill your medication early

Another option is to call your Dr. either get a paper prescription to take with you, or have them call the meds into a pharmacy locally where you will be on vacation.  (Find a pharmacy where you will be and get their fax number before calling your Dr.)

If your RX is at a larger pharmacy (ie: Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, etc) they can transfer the med to their location to fill it.  Be aware that if your local pharmacy has already filled it, then they have to back it out of the system so a different location to fill it.  It is possible, but may take a little time.

One other thing to be aware of is that filling a prescription out of state may not be covered by your insurance, or may be billed at a higher copay.  And to top it all off, out of state prescriptions are sometimes not honored.  Meaning even if you pay cash and don't bill insurance, sometimes they can't be filled at all.  It depends on the type of medication.
